Italy Urges Hormuz Agreement, Lebanon Ceasefire in Regional Talks

(MENAFN) Italy has renewed its appeal for a diplomatic deal aimed at ensuring the safe reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, while also emphasizing the need for a durable ceasefire in Lebanon, as stated by reports.

During a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani urged rapid efforts toward a constructive resolution of the ongoing tensions involving Iran and encouraged the restoration of positive relations with Gulf neighbors.

“It is essential to reach an agreement swiftly on a ceasefire that ensures the safe reopening of the Strait of #Hormuz and confirms the exclusively civilian nature of the Iranian nuclear program,” he wrote on social media platform X following the call, as stated by reports.

Tajani also underlined the importance of a stable and lasting ceasefire in Lebanon, calling on all involved parties to work toward a shared and sustainable peace settlement.

“Italy is ready to contribute actively to supporting dialogue and strengthening stability in Lebanon and throughout the region,” he added.

As stated by reports, the remarks come amid broader diplomatic developments, including a decision by the United States to extend a ceasefire with Iran to allow time for Tehran to prepare a “unified proposal,” following external mediation efforts.

The Iran ceasefire, originally announced earlier in the month, had been scheduled to expire on Wednesday, while a separate 10-day truce between Lebanon and Israel came into effect on Friday, according to reports.
