AfD Leader Calls for Ukrainian Reparations Over Nord Stream Pipeline Damage
The Nord Stream infrastructure, which previously transported Russian natural gas to Germany, was severely damaged in explosions that year. German investigators have reportedly linked the incident to a small group of Ukrainian operatives, with an alleged organizer later extradited to Germany from Italy.
Moscow has disputed the official narrative, arguing that the operation was too complex to have been carried out by a limited number of divers operating in waters monitored by NATO without state involvement.
Speaking at a party event, Weidel criticized proposals by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to support Ukraine’s closer integration with the European Union, describing Ukraine as a “bottomless pit” dependent on sustained foreign financial aid.
She claimed that Germany has already provided more than €100 billion in assistance to Ukraine over the past four years.
Weidel also called for clarification regarding Ukraine’s alleged role in the Nord Stream incident, stating that responsibility for what she described as a “state-terrorist act” against critical infrastructure must be fully investigated.
She further argued that Ukraine should be required to pay reparations to Germany, saying the destruction of the pipelines contributed to major economic losses not only for Germany but for Europe more broadly due to reduced access to Russian energy supplies.
In addition, she urged an immediate halt to German military and financial support for Ukraine, advocating instead for renewed diplomatic engagement between Kyiv and Moscow and a restoration of dialogue with Russia.
