Western Allies Renew Calls for North Korea to End Nuclear Programs
In a joint statement, the EU, the US, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea reaffirmed their commitment to the "complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization" of North Korea.
The statement highlighted sanctions introduced in October by the EU, Australia and the United States targeting North Korea's "use of overseas workers, malicious cyber activities, and actors involved in unlawful DPRK (North Korea)-Russia cooperation."
According to the statement, the measures are intended to limit Pyongyang's ability to finance and develop weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles, while also addressing military cooperation between North Korea and Russia that the countries consider unlawful.
The participating governments said the latest sanctions were supported by detailed findings published by the Multilateral Sanctions Monitoring Team, which tracks North Korea's compliance with UN Security Council resolutions and documents suspected violations.
"The MSMT and EU reaffirm our commitment to the complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization of the DPRK, calling on it to abandon its unlawful WMD and ballistic missile programs, and taking action to counter DPRK attempts to violate and evade UN sanctions."
